Faceted Amethyst Bracelet

Amethyst is a type of quartz that forms in hydrothermal vents.  As it cools, if trace amounts of iron and manganese are present, it will turn the crystals the various shades of purple that have been prized for thousands of years.  The name amethyst is derived from the Greek word, “amethystos,” which means “not drunken.”  It was believed by the Ancient Greeks that wearing amethyst or having amethyst set in drinkware would ward off drunkenness, and keep the wearer clear-headed.  While we know today that this is not the case, amethyst is still seen spiritually as helping the wearer keep a clear head.  A 7 on the Mohs Scale, amethyst is an excellent stone to be fashioned into all types of jewelry.
